Why do carbon fiber parts turn yellow in the sun?
The yellowing riders complain about isn't the carbon fiber itself. The carbon weave — Bestem uses 100% Toray pre-preg carbon — is chemically stable under sunlight. What ambers and clouds is the resin and clear coat sitting on top of the weave. Standard epoxies and basic clear coats contain aromatic compounds that absorb ultraviolet energy, oxidize, and slowly shift from water-clear to a hazy amber. That's the "yellowed carbon" look.
